Safety Tips for Kids
In Case of Fire
  • Stay low and leave the house immediately
  • Yell FIRE so everybody in the house can hear you
  • Don't stop and take anything with you
  • Call the fire department from your neighbors' house
  • Never attempt to put out the fire yourself
  • Never go back into the house for anything!
Stop, Drop and Roll
  • If your clothes catch on fire, you should STOP immediately, DROP to the ground and ROLL back and forth until the fire is out.
  • If your friends' clothes catch on fire, you should tell them to STOP, DROP and ROLL.
  • Once they are down and rolling, you can use a towel or blanket to help put out the flames.
  • Get and adult to help and call the fire department.
E.D.I.T.H.

Edith stands for Exit Drill In The Home. Edith is a very important part of fire safety. You should plan an exit drill in your home in case your house ever catches on fire. The plan should include at least two exits for each room. You should plan on where to meet once you are out of your home. Some people use their mailbox or a neighbor's house as a meeting place. Make sure everyone knows their roll in getting everyone out safely, especially those who may need help because of age or a disability. Once you are out the house, call the fire department. You and your family should practice the plan many times so you will be prepared in case of a fire.
